York Mills started the tournament strong with a victory over the Gulf Coast Flames, but struggled in a 2-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Bulls. Doubts surfaced as the team felt beat. The Bolts were coached by Vincent Lecavalier and Dan Girardi of Tampa Bay Lightening fame. The NHL veterans, their sons and teammates, won the game with pure effort and speed. The second day proved differently for York Mills. The team's victories over the Lakeland Royals and the Atlanta Fire raised spirits as well as our team's respect for the hockey programs in the southern states. The final saw York Mills pitched against the Bulls again. This time coach Luke Colavecchia and the Rangers were ready. The team took it to them early with the first goal. The second and the third came soon after. The finish was a 6-0 shutout victory. A definitive win over a team that had never lost.
A big congratulations to the York Mills Rangers' Atom A team for their well deserved victory.
