On January 24th, the York Mills Hockey Club U11 Blue hockey team made an inspiring appearance on Breakfast Television to share their journey with the Chevrolet Good Deeds Cup. This initiative challenges minor hockey teams across Canada to make a difference in their communities, and York Mills Blue has fully embraced the spirit of giving.
Hockey Beyond the Rink
“Part of hockey, and part of being a team, is going outside of the rink and giving back to the community,” said York Mills hockey coach Jonathan Kreiger during the interview. The team recognizes that their role as young athletes extends far beyond the ice—they are leaders who can create a lasting impact through acts of kindness.
York Mills players Jake Robinson and Teddy Smith joined their coach to talk about their charitable efforts, especially during the holiday season. Teddy emphasized how important it is to use their good fortune to help those in need:
“We are so lucky to have what we have, and some people are not that lucky, so it’s nice to give back to the community and see people with a Merry Christmas.”
Making a Difference with the Good Deeds Cup
By participating in the Chevrolet Good Deeds Cup, York Mills Hockey Club U11 Blue is setting an example for young athletes everywhere. Their story is a reminder that teamwork isn’t just about winning games—it’s about lifting others up, showing kindness, and making a real difference.
As the competition continues, teams across Canada will showcase their good deeds, all in hopes of winning the grand prize: a $100,000 donation to a charity of their choice. But for York Mills U11 Blue, the real reward is the smiles they bring to their community.
Let’s cheer on these young changemakers and celebrate the power of giving!
