YMHC aims to provide all players with a safe, fun and inclusive environment in which they may learn the game of hockey with strong emphasis on equal ice time, team play and sportsmanship. Players can be removed from the house league program if they do not comply with the following rules and guidelines.

All players are expected to follow the rules and guidelines below:

  • Play the game for fun, and not to please a parent, guest or coach.
  • Play by the rules of YMHC House League Hockey and in the spirit of the game.
  • Remember that winning isn’t everything. Having fun, improving skills, making friends and doing your best are important.
  • Remember that Officials and Coaches are there to help you. Do no argue with the officials or Coaches. Direct all concerns to your Coaches or Convenor. Accept decisions and show Officials and Coaches respect.
  • Conduct yourself with respect and dignity at all times. Players are not permitted to “mouth-off”, curse or use foul language, slam sticks, or throw equipment because this behaviour can spoil the activity for everyone. Fighting and temper tantrums will not be tolerated.
  • Show good sportsmanship at all times, both when winning and losing. Show support and respect for teammates and opponents at all times. Players will not tease, ridicule, put down or make fun of any players at any time for any reason.
  • Show respect to the arena facilities and attendants. Do not enter the arena ice surface until arena staff give permission.

York Mills Hockey Club Parents and Legal Guardians Code of Conduct

YMHC aims to provide all players with a safe, fun and inclusive environment in which they may learn the game of hockey with strong emphasis on equal ice time, team play and sportsmanship. Parents, family members and legal guardians play an important role in creating and maintaining a safe, fun and positive environment for all players.

All parents and legal guardians are expected to follow the rules and guidelines below:

  • Promote the emotional and physical well-being of the athletes ahead of any desire to win.
  • Encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support for all players. Applaud the efforts and good plays from both teams.
  • Encourage your child towards skill development and good sportsmanship. Applaud good plays by both your player's team and their opponents.
  • Remember that players learn by example. Never ridicule or yell at any player, coach, referee or convenor for making a mistake. Understand that making mistakes is a key part of learning.
  • Recognize the value and importance of all volunteers. Understand that coaching is a difficult endeavor. Give the coaches the benefit of the doubt and treat them with respect.
  • Leave the coaching to the coaching staff. Encourage players to follow the rules and play in a manner consistent with the spirit of the game.  
  • Support all efforts to remove all forms of harassment from the game. 
  • Ensure that your child is properly outfitted and wears all equipment as mandated by the GTHL and YMHC. 
  • Teach that hard work and honest effort are as important as victory, so that game results are accepted without undue disappointment. 
  • Advise coaches of any medical conditions applicable to your child at the start of the season. 
  • Do not yell at coaches or officials. Direct any concerns to the division convenor in a respectful manner.  
  • Ensure that you have responsible supervision for your child in the event you cannot attend. 
  • Ensure your player is fully dressed, with skates tied, in the dressing room 15 minutes before game time. 
  • Leave the dressing room 10 minutes before game time. 
  • Stay away from the bench area unless your child is injured or requires medical attention 
  • Any parent asked to leave the ice rink or bench area by a referee or coach must do so immediately. 
  • Follow and respect the decisions of all city arena staff and any police, ambulance attendants, firefighters or other city authorized staff without hesitation. Their directions in respect of any matter within any arena or related parking lot is final.
  • Update your Hockey Canada contact information on a timely basis. 

York Mills Hockey Club House League and Select Coaches’ Code of Conduct Duties and Responsibilities

The role of Coach is vital to providing all players with a safe, fun and inclusive environment where they may learn the game of hockey with strong emphasis on equal ice time, team play and sportsmanship. Coaches are reminded that the goal of house league play is fairness and equality of play at all times. Coaches are to refrain from implementing higher levels of game strategy / player matching / line juggling. Coaches seeking higher levels of play should seek opportunities with our Select and Rep divisions.

All Coaches are expected to:

  • Promote the emotional and physical well-being of the athletes ahead of any desire to win.  
  • Encourage player to follow the rules and play in a manner consistent with the spirit of the game. 
  • Teach players that hard work and honest effort are as important as victory, so that game results are accepted without undue disappointment. 
  • Encourage all players towards skill development and good sportsmanship.  
  • Remember that players learn by example. Provide encouragement and positive re-enforcement to all players. Never ridicule or yell at any player. Understand that making mistakes is a key part of learning.  
  • Ensure that all players receive equal ice time each game during both regular season and playoffs. 
  • Be courteous and respectful towards referees, fellow coaches, players and parents. 
  • Support all efforts to remove all forms of harassment from the game. 
  • Wear a helmet when on the ice at all time (mandatory). 
  • Ensure alternative coaching arrangements are in place in the event you cannot attend games. 
  • Maintain team discipline; fights, temper tantrums, foul language are not to be tolerated. 
  • Notify the convenor of any and all disciplinary and officiating issues immediately after each game. 
  • Distribute all League and Division communications, including team photos and other matter as directed by the league or convenor to players/parents promptly. 
  • Honour all select suspensions applicable to House League play and vice versa. 
  • Conduct supervised pre-game warm-up including organizing drills. 
  • Ensure that select players do not wear their select uniforms during house league play or practice. 
  • Ensure that players do not enter the ice surface until the area staff have fully completed all ice maintenance and fully closed the Zamboni doors
  • Respect the direction given by any arena and or City staff (including emergency response staff) at all times.
